A Russian research-and-production company from Kaluga region develops and manufactures microwave devices for disinfection of medical and other biological wastes. The microwave method ensures a high reliability, cost-effectiveness and safety of the disinfection process for infected materials of various origins. Details:
Safe utilization of medical and other biological wastes is topical for medical enterprises; they are bound to carry additional costs. Disinfection of medical wastes is currently implemented, mainly, with use of chlorine or heat treatment, or incineration. Chlorine and its derivatives are toxic for humans and environment and do not ensure sufficient decontamination; in this case, hazardous infected wastes may go to landfills. Heat treatment and incineration require great energy consumption. Incineration produces dioxin, which is prohibited in gas emissions.
Radiation technique is the most universal and reliable method for decontamination of various materials. The main point of this method is the microwave radiation that kills all microorganisms in the irradiated stuff. The microwave method ensures a high reliability, cost-effectiveness and safety of the disinfection process for infected materials of various origins.
The Russian company offers the technology and the facility for microwave disinfection of medical wastes. Different processing modes (that is, combination of microwave power and irradiation time) enable disinfection of a wide range of biological waste. Clinical tests confirmed the high effectiveness in disinfection of medical wastes class A,B,C contaminated with all possible bacterial and virus infections: vegetative microorganisms (e.coli, staphilococcus, streptococcus, mycobacterium tuberculosis, ps.aeruginosa, cholera, typhus germs); spores (bacillus subtilis, bacillus cereus, bacillus stearothermophilus); viruses (hepatitis A, B, C, polio).
The facility can be installed at any medical establishment. The wastes are collected in disposable bags; the bags are put into a reusable container and treated till complete disinfection is achieved. The disinfected wastes in disposable bags then further sent for recycling or burial. The facility can also be used for utilization of ampoulized vaccines, after their effective time is expired.
The facility can be equipped with a destructor, thus implementing both disinfection and chopping of wastes. The facility has the versions with an overhead exhauster or without it. The facility can be modified for various outputs. Two-door version allows installing the facility at the border between a “clean” and “dirty” premises.
